Sourdough Intro and Tasting

This course is a fun and beginner-friendly introduction to the world of sourdough alongside a delicious sourdough tasting.

You’ll learn the basics about the sourdough starter: what it is, how it needs to be maintained, and how to use it for baking delicious and healthy bread. During the session, we’ll feed our starters together, and you’ll go home with your own active sourdough starter, plus a clear step-by-step guide to help you bake your first loaf at home.

To spark your motivation for sourdough baking, the session begins with a sourdough tasting. You’ll enjoy a selection of freshly baked sourdough breads served with tasty dips. The tasting typically includes my signature matcha–white chocolate–oat milk loaf, spicy cheddar–jalapeño sourdough, a classic wheat–spelt–rye blend, rye–spelt bread with caraway and coriander seeds, and a sourdough focaccia. You’ll also get to try crunchy sourdough discard crackers, which are a great way to use leftover starter instead of wasting it. The step-by-step recipes of everything you'll taste will be included in the guide.

At the end of the session you are going to learn how to shape a sourdough loaf, which I think is one of the trickiest parts of the process. You'll get a pre-fermented dough, shape it, then take it home, leave it in the fridge overnight and bake it the next day.

This course is perfect if you’re curious about sourdough, want to check weather it's worth the effort and if it fits your lifestyle. It's also perfect if you think you're not ready to commit to sourdough yet, but enjoy eating it, and maybe by the end of the session you'll change your mind ;)

  • Please let me know if you are vegan or if you have allergies, so that I can adapt the sourdough tasting accordingly. The tasting is vegetarian.

  • Bring a tote bag to carry the starter jar home safely as well as the leftover bread from the sourdough tasting.

Hi, I'm Anastasia—an engineering student and a passionate foodie, originally from Moldova, based in Berlin. Like many others, I first tried baking sourdough during the first COVID lockdown… and I failed miserably. Three years later, I gave it another shot and once I understood a few key principles, I realized sourdough isn’t as complicated as it seems. I started baking regularly, balancing a job, studies and baking, and soon I was sharing my bread—and my knowledge—with friends, family, and colleagues.

Now I run Loaf Lab Berlin, where I teach fellow Berliners how to fit sourdough into their busy lives. My workshops are hands-on and designed to make sourdough approachable—even for complete beginners. What began as a personal challenge has become one of my favorite ways to connect with others. I truly believe anyone can bake sourdough—with the right guidance and a bit of patience. I can’t wait to meet you, share what I’ve learned, and show you that you can bake nourishing sourdough bread for yourself and your loved ones—no matter how busy life gets.
