Come weave with us at Studio JUMI and dive into the art of weaving! Sketch your own textile samples by experimenting with color, material and texture on a four-shaft loom.
This course is inspired by textile artists such as Anni Albers, Gunta Stölzl and Sheila Hicks, who combined the craft of hand-weaving with the language of modern art. The course is led by Julia and Miriam, founders of Studio JUMI, a professional equipped weaving atelier in Berlin Köpenick.
After a short introduction on the diversity of textile art and the basic techniques of a handloom, you will go straight to hands-on practice. Julia and Miriam will get you tuned in with the mechanics and rhythm of the loom, as well as help you transform your ideas into handwoven sketches. There will be five different pattern looms for you to try out and experiment with.
During this 4-hour course you will get an art-based and practice-led approach to hand-weaving. At the end of the class all participants will get to take home their own textile design sketch.
This workshop is designed for all levels and limited to groups of max. 5 participants. Class can be held in English and German.
