During this class, you will create your own ceramic vessel of your choice (see pictures to get inspired by some of the possibilities), dive deep into the sacred knowledge of this centuries-old craft, and will be warmly invited to continue practicing it after the workshop.
The final object you will create in the workshop will be stunning and fully functional - no doubt, but the true value of this workshop goes far beyond it. As most, if not all ceramists keep saying - there is simply something undeniably meditative in the essence of this material, that gets us present, grounded, and calms down our restless minds. The moment of mindful creative practice with clay, the grounding feeling of connection to the element of Earth is where your hands and hearts will be invited to go for these two hours.
You will be guided through the history of ceramics as well as the nature and behaviour of this magic material - different types of clay, stages of drying and firing, ways of preparing and shaping it into a final piece. Then it will be the time to touch clay and embrace it into its new state, whatever it be. The workshop will offer you several objects as examples and possibilities, but it won’t bound you to one or the other. Whether your final piece will be a bowl, a plate, a mug, a vase or a little sculpture would be entirely up to you and clay and the conversation between the two of you.
The clay itself is nothing else but the very core of our planet, that came up to the surface as lava, and millions of years of sun, wind, and flowing water later, turned into the mud that we are going to shape in this workshop. In other words, we will be in touch with stardust, the very essence of the world around us. As mind-blowing as it is, the essence of this workshop is truly about getting you in tune with your own deepest true nature, which is the very source of your creativity, presence, and mindfulness.
