“When you are eating good, you are thinking good!” says Bacteria Barista Alexis Goertz, explaining the gut-brain connection in our human bodies.
As we are living in an anti-bacterial world and fermentation is becoming a lost art, this workshop is about bringing back the practice of cultivating natural probiotics from living foods.

In this workshop you will learn all of the delicious ways to make sparkling sodas that tingle on our tongues and are good for our guts. The focus of the evening is WATER KEFIR, a brilliant, bubbly beverage to sip during these remaining summer days or to mix into your own homemade cocktails.

Alexis will be going through the motions of caring for kefir grains and will show you how to continue the brewing process into the future. Of course you will also be making and drinking delicious probiotic drinks!

  • You will take home your jar of self-made fizzy water kefir with the fermentation process to continue at home. Don’t drink it all up, the containing bacteria colony will serve as your bacteria mother to create countless additional soda pops.

  • The workshop is held in both English and German. So if your English is a bit rusty, you can still sign up and Alexis will share her wisdom in impressively accent-free German.

Entertainment through hands-on education is the name of the game at Edible Alchemy, the fermentation skill-share co-founded by Alexis Goertz some years ago in her hometown Winnipeg, Canada. Her passion for microbes, however, ignited earlier when she was living in Mozambique, being exposed to a variety of fermented foods and drinks. A nomad and a globetrotter, the microbiological superstar with a degree in International Development since then keeps collecting and experimenting with new tastes, ingredients and techniques from all over the world, on her mission to engage with people about fermentation.
